AirBnb has launched a new service called “Trips” which will allow travelers to schedule adventures with local experts instead of hunting for activities to do on their own. The company’s CEO Brian Chesky announced the news on Thursday via Facebook video.

“The magic is in the people, it’s all about immersing in local communities.”

Examples of how this could work include things like getting surf lessons from a pro in Malibu, or taking lessons from a Japanese samurai master. The idea is to link interested tourists up with people who have real life experience and local knowledge on the topic.

The app update allows tourists to book these trips as both half day adventures or multiple day ones. Most of the experiences so far are listed as $200 or less.

The concept is to keep tourists away from overrated tourist destinations and to skip over having to rely on reviews that may or may not be relevant or helpful for their intentions.

The service is currently available in 12 different cities including Los Angeles, San Francisco, London, Miami, Paris, and Tokyo. By next year they plan to expand it to 50 more cities.
