The AirPods launched online a month ago, and they have now started to arrive at the first customers earlier in December. However, users have discovered problems with the charging case that comes with the headphones.
Apple advertised that the charging case would hold 24 hours of battery, but according to the complaints, the case is holding less than that. Normally, the AirPods case should hold battery power when the device is low on battery and charge within the case.
However, some of the unfortunate users are saying that by the time they open their cases after just a few hours, they are noticing that the case would have dropped by up to 40 percent. All of this happens with the AirPods inside and even at the full battery and at the same time having minimal Bluetooth activation.
Users thought that’s how Apple intended to make the case chargers work, but it was only after one user on Reddit, named severinskulls wrote about his own experience, and how he had received replacement AirPods that were not fixing the same problem.
In the Reddit post, the user wrote,
I was having the exact same issue you had. AirPods in case, go to bed with a full charge and waking up with 15%-20% of the case charge gone. That’s a full charge cycle for the AirPods themselves!
I spoke to Apple support online. They had no answer how long the charge of the case should last when the AirPods are not in use. They made an appointment for me in store as all diagnostics at the moment are being handled in the store they said. Cut to this morning, go in for my appointment.
The genius was very friendly. I was his first AirPods case. Turns out he also has no info on whether this rate of the battery draining is normal. He said that definitely they are designed to lose charge over time as cycling the charge improves the health of the AirPod batteries. However as I pointed out, going from a full charge to empty in two days while they are sitting there unused seems way too fast. To be safe, he placed my AirPods. So i got a brand new pair.
When the AirPods first arrived, they received rave reviews from most critics who applauded their quick charging time, together with the iOS battery widget and the battery life of the charging case itself. The only problems about the charging issue only came out a week ago after customers had started using them.
