The attendance at Disney parks the Magic Kingdom and Disneyland were actually down in 2016. However, the dip followed an abnormally high year in 2015 so it evens out a bit.

The collective reduction in visitors was around one percent, although their revenue has actually increased. One report states that the increase in revenue is due to “higher average prices for admissions to theme parks and cruise line bookings, increased food, beverage, and merchandise spending, and higher room rates.”

One park that has been experiencing an upturn lately is Universal Studios. That park saw a 13.9 percent increase in visitors after opening the Wizarding World of Harry Potter.

Karen Irwin, the president and chief operating officer of the theme park released a statement about their growth.

“Universal Studios Hollywood attributes its unparalleled attendance growth in 2016 to its ambitious investment in the destination, including the unprecedented arrival of the Wizarding World of Harry Potter.”
