On Wednesday night and into Thursday morning an avalanche buried a ski resort and spa in the Abruzzo region of Italy. At least one person has been reported dead and 30 others are known to be stuck inside Hotel Rigopiano.
So far two people have been rescued from the hotel, but the intense blizzard activity is making it hard for authorities to complete the rescue efforts.
From above only the top level of the three-story hotel is visible and photos have been released showing snow and debris pouring into the hotel. The last tweet that the hotel sent out was about their phone lines being down.
According to one news agency, some people sent a message to the rescue workers that said “Help, we’re dying of cold.” Another report that came from one of the rescue workers said that “there are many dead.”
