Bali has raised its volcano alert level from one two, on a scale out of four. The activity level at Bali’s Mount Agung has increased and raised concerns with the regional disaster mitigation agency.

The mountain is one of the most sacred in all of Bali, and it has been experiencing an increase in earthquake activity which is leading to the concern. The agency is suggesting that people stay at least 1.8 miles away from the volcano until the risk decreases.

The volcano last erupted in 1963, and it wasn’t pretty. The eruption shot 16 miles into the air and killed over 1,000 people. However, with plenty of warning and updates about the seismic activity it should be possible to avoid that sort of a tragedy now.
