Canada’s WestJet airline has announced their plans to launch a new low-cost carrier. The airline’s CEO Gregg Saretsky released a statement about the move.

“As the price-sensitive consumer seeks out alternatives to what is presently available, we believe there is no better airline suited to bring [ultra low-cost carriers] to Canada than WestJet. Our new airline will provide Canadians a pro-competitive, cheap and cheerful flying experience from a company with a proven track record.”

They have not yet released the name of the low-cost airline, but share that it will launch with ten high-density (ie close quarters) Boeing 737-800s.

Canada’s other popular low-cost airline is NewLeaf, which currently offers flights for less than $100 to travel between cities in the country.
