Drones are now allowed to fly through Australia’s largest National Park for the first time ever. Kakadu National Park is a UNESCO World Heritage site and is home to the oldest living culture on earth. The aboriginal people have been there for 50,000 years.

Robert Crack, the director of Tourism Northern Territory international marketing spoke out about the policy change.

“Kakadu isn’t only a dual heritage national park but also the home to many Aboriginal people who have been the traditional land owners for thousands of years. Restrictions on filming are put in place to respect the land and the ancient culture, as well as to enforce the protection of Australia’s national parks.”

Releasing some of the drone footage through a project called “A Journey Through Kakadu” has the intentions of bringing more awareness to the area to increase tourism.
