Dubrovnik, Croatia wants to cut down on its tourist numbers by half. The city’s Mayor Mato Franković has written a letter to the Cruise Line International Association asking that they cut down on the amount of tourists being dropped off at the city.

The request asked the cruise ships take on “more careful planning of the scheduling of the daily arrivals of cruise ships” to offer a “better quality of service which is currently under much strain due the simultaneous arrival of so many guests from cruise ships.”

Last year there were 529 ships making stops at the city, which meant 799, 916 passengers descending into it. Sometimes that meant having over 10,000 people in the Old City at a time. The Mayor has set a new limit of 8,000 people, but hopes to reduce it 4,000 tops.
