Expedia has reportedly gained the license necessary to expand into the Cuban market. In doing so they join Airbnb and many travel agencies and tour groups.

With the license, Expedia is now allowed to book Americans in Cuban accommodations. Clearance from the U.S. Treasury Office of Foreign Assets Control as well also means that they can book non U.S. citizens as well.

Veronica Vega, the Expedia area manager for the Caribbean spoke out about the opportunity.

“I see a lot of potential. We are talking about the largest country in the Caribbean with significant hotel expansion plans. We are very excited about being able to facilitate travel and give people the independence to select their itinerary.”

Nice hotels are currently quite expensive in Cuba, so the option to book with Expedia could open up a lot of possibilities.
