Rome’s Colosseum is now opening areas that were previously closed to the public. The upper levels will allow visitors to pass through a hallway and experience different sights from the new perspective.

The new access is following three years of renovations that the Colosseum recently underwent. The stadium sees upwards of seven million tourists each year and requires quite a bit of upkeep. (Especially when tourists decide to deface the property, which happens from time to time.)

Rome’s Mayor Virginia Raggi has been vocal about respecting the Colosseum and the rest of the city in honor of its history.

“Rome deserves respect. Whoever harms the Colosseum, harms all Romans and all who love the city.”
