We tend to think of summer destinations when we think of the beach, but beaches, of course, exist all year round and some of them are better experienced in the winter.

Tofino in British Columbia is actually a famous spot for storm watching. There are safe lodges nearby where you watch the waters crash dramatically on the shore.

The Lofoten Islands of Norway have views of the northern lights, which means visiting any time of year is going to be incredibly beautiful.

Lake Tahoe, California is popular for snow sports as well as water ones, and in the winter visitors can even snowshoe around the lakes.

The Hot Water Beach in New Zealand’s Coromandel Peninsula is unique because it’s full of hot springs that you can dig up yourself. The natural spring water is heated up by volcanic activity under the surface.
