The Eagles are suing a hotel in Mexico for using the same name as their 1970’s hit “Hotel California.” The 11-room hotel is located in Todo Santos, Baja California Sur.
Not only has the hotel been using the name of the song, but they also play Eagles songs in the hotel and believe that they’ve been trying to sell Eagles’ related goods.
The lawsuit states the following.
“Defendants lead U.S. consumers to believe that the Todos Santos Hotel is associated with the Eagles and, among other things, served as the inspiration for the lyrics in ‘Hotel California,’ which is false.”
But the hotel claims innocence since it was first named Hotel California in the 1950’s. It changed names multiple times before settling back on that one. It’s website reads:
“Although the present owners of the hotel do not have any affiliation with the Eagles, nor do they promote any association, many visitors are mesmerized by the ‘coincidences’ between the lyrics of the hit song and the physicality of the hotel and its surroundings.”
