The global summit for the World Travel and Tourism Council was recently held in Bangkok and the organization’s president and CEO David Scowsill dove right into discussing sustainability.
There were over 900 attendees at the event and David asked them to “stand up and make a real difference” towards “transforming our world.”
David went on to mention that the travel industry and the tourism that goes along with it brings in $7.6 trillion around the world. The industry is also responsible for one in ten jobs. He feels strongly about the fact that since the industry is so powerful, it should be doing more good along the way.
“We are now seeing the recalibration of global politics, it is becoming clearer that the economic growth we have enjoyed over the past half century, and the globalization that has driven it, is not working for everyone. Governments are calling into question some of the basic freedoms of people movement and trade, upon which all our businesses so depend.”
